Toby Thacher’s Comments Featured in New York Times Coverage of Investigation of Interior Construction Industry

The comments of Thacher Associates' President Toby Thacher were featured in the New York Times article "Bid Rigging Case Engulfs an Elite Who Built the Interiors of Offices" (link to article), one of a series of articles in the Times about the three-year investigation into New York's interior construction industry that broke up a bid-rigging scheme among the city's top interior firms. At the time the article was written, plea negotiations were in progress.

"This is going to be a steamroller over the industry, and it'll cause a major restructuring," Mr. Thacher was quoted as saying. "Every single corporation that renovated its space in the past decade could well be affected by what will come out of this."

The article goes on to profile the influential executives at the center of the inquiry, and the means by which "Pay to Play" was the rule for contractors seeking work. The Manhattan District Attorney's Office eventually reached plea agreements with many of the executives and companies involved.
